Cote d’Ivoire, July 14, 2026_The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia celebrates another significant milestone in its commitment to staff development and institutional capacity building, as two of its employees successfully graduates from the first Cohort of the Macroeconomic Policy Management Academy for Africa (MEMA), an executive training program organized by the African Development Bank Group.
The ceremony was held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at the AFBD Headquarters Auditorium (CCID) in Plateau Abidjan, Cote d’ Ivoire.
Mrs. Hawa Faikai Amara, Project Accountant and Mr. Charles Younis, Auditor, were among 133 participants from 34 African countries who successfully completed the intensive 18-month Executive Training in Macroeconomic Policy Management. The hybrid 18 months program, which ran from June 2024 to December 2025, officially culminated in a graduation ceremony held today in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Liberia was represented by eight government officials from four public institutions: the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS), the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The EPA’s participation in the inaugural MEMA program reflects the Agency’s unwavering commitment to investing in its workforce. Under the leadership of Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel King Urey Yarkpawolo, who initiated the opportunity during his third month in office, the Agency fully sponsored the participation of its two staff members throughout the program.
To ensure their successful completion of the rigorous executive course, the EPA provided laptops, internet scratch cards to support their online learning and sponsored their participation in the graduation ceremony in Abidjan.
The successful completion of the program by Mrs. Amara and Mr. Younis is expected to strengthen the Agency’s institutional capacity by enhancing expertise in macroeconomic policy analysis, financial management, governance and public sector accountability.
As the EPA continues to champion environmental sustainability, it also remains committed to building a highly skilled and knowledgeable workforce by creating opportunities for professional growth and continuous learning.
The Agency congratulates Mrs. Hawa Faikai Amara and Mr. Charles Younis on this outstanding achievement and commends them for representing both the EPA and Liberia with excellence on the continental stage.
