Liberia Launches First Biodiversity Finance Plan to Mobilize Investment for Nature

The Government of Liberia, in partnership with UNDP Liberia, has officially launched the development of the country’s first-ever Biodiversity Finance Plan (BFP).

The initiative, supported through the GEF-8 Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), will assess biodiversity financing needs, identify funding gaps, and develop innovative solutions to mobilize resources for conservation and sustainable development.

Speaking at the launch, UNDP Liberia Deputy Resident Representative Louis Kuukpen emphasized that Liberia’s biodiversity is not only an environmental asset, but also a foundation for economic growth, food security, climate resilience, and human well-being.

The Biodiversity Finance Plan will support implementation of Liberia’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan while advancing the country’s commitments under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

Together, we are building sustainable financing solutions to protect Liberia’s forests, wetlands, coastal ecosystems, and natural heritage for future generations.
