Spicy - Bright - Berry - Light tannins

Unico Zelo is a small winery, run by Brendan and Laura Carter. Still only in their 20s, this dynamic couple have been making wine under the Unico Zelo label for the last seven years, taking their inspiration from their intense passion for their native land. The wines are crafted from varieties that require minimal intervention, both in the vineyard and the winery. The in-depth study of vineyard sites in South Australia has led them to focus on those Italian varieties which flourish in the inland, continental climate of the Clare Valley and Riverland. These delicious and unique wines combine sustainability and drinkability to great effect. 

This succulent red wine pairs ripe fruit flavours with the crisp acidity that one would expect from these northern Italian varieties. Upfront blackberry and bitter cherry fruit with liquorice and cardamom spice give way to notes of anise and herbal savouriness providing umami-like refreshment. The finish is dry and persistent, with a lightly tannic grip. Following a four day maceration, fermentation took place without temperature control in stainless steel, using only wild yeast.
