It is a 1-4 player true co-operative game in which the players guide Solomon Kane, playing as manifestations of his faith in the form of the Four Cardinal Virtues. Utilising a card and dice resource management system, the players must work closely together to ensure that Solomon prevails over the Darkness.
The Puritan Pledge contains 7 complete Adventures; The Rattle of Bones, Skulls in the Stars, The Blue Flame of Vengeance, The Witchfinder General, L'Ogre, The Beast of Bordeaux and The Death’s Black Riders. Each of these Adventures has its own set of Discovery cards, Chapter cards, and miniatures.
The Puritan Pledge contains the miniatures, Rule Book, Story Book, double-sided board tiles, Virtue dashboards, Darkness Cards, Event Cards, and all of the tokens, dice, cubes needed to run the game.
The Puritan Pledge also contains all unlocked stretch goals:
- Solo Mode, adding a new Virtue miniature, dual-layered dashboard, 10 Virtue cards and a solo rules section in the rulebook.
- Darkness Mode, adding a 5th player, a competitive mode, a Darkness miniature, dual-layered dashboard, 3 extra Fate dice and a Darkness Mode rules section in the rulebook.
- Nightmare Mode, adding 2 extra Shadow miniatures, 50 Nightmare cards and 9 Shadow tokens
- The Town Crier miniature and 4 Art Prints
