GERDA HEUCKEROTH began her career with an apprenticeship under renowned ceramist Siegfried Möller and studies at the School of Applied Arts in Bremen.  She showed her first pieces at the Grassi Museum in Leipzig in 1939.  Less than two years later she was appointed the artistic director at Carstens-Uffrect KG in Neuhaldensleben and soon took over the management of the group's Hubbe branch.  (The Carstens-Uffrecht factory would be nationalized by the DDR with the division of Germany and operate as VEB Haldensleben up until reunification.)  During WWII Heuckeroth set up a workshop in her home in a suburban district of Hamburg.  Following the war, she worked for various firms as a designer of both forms and décors, among them Grünstadt, Villeroy & Boch, and the Koninkliijk Plateelbakkerij Zuid Holland in Gouda.  Heuckeroth became artistic director of Ruscha Keramik in 1959 when Hanns Welling left the company.  She succeeded him again in 1962 as the senior designer for Ceramano.  In 1964 she moved to CARSTENS TÖNNIESHOF as head of its 'Atelier' department, where she produced a great number of outstanding designs.  Along with much of her early work, these have become highly sought-after by a new generation of collectors.  Eventually retiring from industry, Heuckeroth returned to freelancing out of her Hamburg studio.  Her work has received numerous awards and prizes over the years at national and international exhibitions.

HEINZ SIERY was a true luminary in the world of ceramics in the 1950s and '60s.  His form designs had significant impact on the product styles of makers Fohr, Scheurich, CARSTENS, and Ruscha, among others.  Siery often employed "the golden ratio" (or an approximation) while designing, lending harmonious proportion to his work.  This can be clearly seen in his most iconic vase, no. 271/22 for Scheurich.  Presented in 1959, it was extremely popular and was still being manufactured in the 1970s.  Siery also developed and introduced new methods of industrial organization.

In 1969 Siery and wife, Ingrid Siery-Illgner, established a jointly operated studio, Atelier Syré, near the historic town of Euskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia out of which they both freelanced.  (Ingrid had also designed decorative objects for CARSTENS, and overseen the design department at the Wächtersbach earthenware factory.)  In addition to commissioned work, the couple produced creations of their own—notably elegant, figural sculptures made of bronze, whose simple, classical forms and sleek lines evoke the work of Henry Moore and Joannis Avramidis.  Atelier Syré houses a sculpture park home to more than 300 of these works.

CARSTENS TÖNNIESHOF was founded in 1946 by Ernst Carstens and his son Christian.  Their family had had a long prior history of manufacturing ceramics and porcelain in Germany, but all of its businesses had collapsed by the end of WWII.  Most of the CARSTENS factories wound up on East German soil when the country was divided and so were expropriated by the DDR.  Father and son built the new Tönnieshof factory on a farm of that name in Fredelsloh in Lower Saxony, just west of the border with East Germany.  Production of table ceramics began in 1947; the first known decorative pieces date from the early '50s.  Ernst's wife Trude Carstens served as artistic director until her death in 1965.

CARSTENS TÖNNIESHOF was very successful for many years and produced an enormous variety of shapes and glazes.  The 'Luxus' and 'Atelier' ranges were more expensive lines and were sold in large department stores—'Atelier,' launched in 1962, was the creation of renowned designer Gerda Heuckeroth.  Helmut Scholtis introduced the very popular 'Ankara' décor in 1963 during a stint with CARSTENS; an example of the "wax resist" technique, it was applied to a broad array of forms.  Lava glazes were employed during the second half of the 1960s.  Production was eventually expanded abroad to Austria, Chile, Argentina, and Australia—it may well have topped out at close to 10,000 items daily.  Other distinguished designers on CARSTENS' roster included Heinz Siery, Rudolph Christmann, and Dieter Peter.  The firm went bankrupt in 1977.

Creality K1 SE - Prints great with stock settings - needs a side spool mount

I bought the Creality K1 SE a little over a week ago. I had an Ender 3 S1 before this printer. The K1 SE is so, so much easier to print with right out of the box! I definitely recommend it. It's a good way to get the improvements that were built into Creality's K1C, but at a nicer price. Plus, you can install your own version of Klipper if you want. I've printed 10 or so things in PLA and PETG, and I haven't had any failed prints. The automatic bed leveling has just worked. I have not had any problems with bed adhesion. On the Ender 3 S1, I only used a textured PEI plate, but the smooth build plate on the K1 SE works fine. The extruder cooling fan also seems ok for what I've printed so far. I printed an overhang test and the 75 degree overhang looks fine, but it had trouble at 80 degrees. The bridging test looked ok. (The longest bridge was only 25 mm on that test however.) I've put the printer in a soft-sided enclosure that I had used for my old Ender 3 S1. (It's easy to find similar encolsures.) The LEDs on the K1 SE are bright enough to see inside which is something that I was concerned about before I purchased. However, this enclosure makes it difficult to access the back of the printer where the filament spool is mounted, so I designed a mount that clamps onto the side-bar - see the pictures. The nozzle cleaning is completely ineffective. The wiper pushes material up the sides of the nozzle and melts onto the nozzle. The result is the nozzle leaves burnt debris on the prints. The calibration before each print only probes 5 points on the bed and the results are not satisfactory, with the nozzle being variously too close or too far from the bed. To adjust the z offset you have to go through several menus and the machine seems to not remember where you set it last time. Print quality is good except for VFAs. Part cooling fan is very loud at full speed.

Assembly Tricks And Tips.

All my packages came at same time. Assembly is in 3 phases, each box had the same complete instruction book, but each phase was not completely together in the same box. I immediately started opening boxes and just separated by letters. A's here, B's here. Not all A's or the other letters are the same, but it is very easy to follow the instructions. You won't get it mixed up. 3 hardware kits, it's pretty easy. Picture Book Difficulty :) The one large headboard piece was Letter M. There was no sticker on it, but there were no M stickers either. Pretty easy. It's not a thick grandma's pull-out bed type of couch, but seems sturdy. I probably should have got the 3 year warranty, and I only have one kid. This isn't a couch to front-flip off the island on to, but it is nice and comfy and seems to be worth the cost. Assembly took about 2-3 hours casually I think. I used impact drill. Luckily it's 1 screw head size, then the socket for the nuts basically (provided). Communication with seller was easy and transparent. Idk what else people might be looking for in these reviews. It smelled completely fine. Good purchase. They say to air it out for a while, but I just assembled it immediately it didn't mess up anything. OH! And a little trick for the double sided threaded bolts with no head, they can get stuck hand tightening it so tighten down one of the nuts all the way to the end of the exposed thread that sticks up, and you can thread those bolts that don't have a head WAY easier using the nut as the head. Then just loosen the nut back off of it. You'll understand what I mean. Thank You

I want to give my honest review of this couch. One significant difference in the actual couch vs the photos here is the back of the couch is actually much thinner than in the photos. It’s made with metal framing that is very thin covered in fabric with no sort of padding. Also, the back of the couch does not angle back far. Which makes the couch pretty uncomfortable, as your back is up at almost a 90 degree angle. The quality of the couch overall is good. It was easy to assemble and I didn’t really run into any issues in that regard. Like others have said. The cushions are quite thin and also not super soft. The couch is also quite low to the ground, so if you’re looking for that oversized super soft couch, this probably isn’t the one. I do love the pull out bed/chaise which is super nice, ans the storage is great too. For the cost of the couch I think the quality and comfort are good. I don’t love it, I don’t hate it.
