Historical Plan of London by Edward Mogg "LONDON in MINIATURE with the Surrounding Villages" published in 1814. This is the second improved edition of this famous Georgian folding pocket map.
"London in Miniature, with the Surrounding Villages Entire New Plan in which the Improvements both present and intended are actually reduced (by permission) from the surveys of the Several Proprietors. The whole laid down from the best Authorities and carefully corrected to the present time by Edward Mogg. Published by Edward Mogg, 51 Charing Cross. January 1st 1814." Size of the original folding map is approximately 38x21,5 inches.
Edward Mogg was a publisher in London in 19th century. He issued maps and travel guides to England, Wales and London. This extraordinary second 1814 edition of Edward Mogg's folding map covers the central part of London from Kensington to Greenwich and the East India Docks. Of this stunning map, Mogg writes "...like the clue of Ariadne, it will conduct him through the labyrinth, and, occasionally consulted, will enable him, unattended, to thread with ease the mazes of this vast metropolis". Mogg's map of London offers superb and beautifully engraved detail throughout noting all streets, parks, and numerous important buildings. Illustrates a relatively primitive state of development on the south shore of the Thames. The downtown area consumed by the London fire of 1666 is highlighted in red. Mogg's intention in this map is to highlight various city works and urban renewal projects which were being perused in the early 19th century.
This poster is a high quality "giclée" reproduction of a restored antique original, custom-printed on Standard Single-weight Matt Coated art paper 140gsm or Heavyweight Matt Coated art paper 230gsm (more of a thin card density), or superb Epson Matt Canvas 320gsm, according to your choice. We use the latest UltraChromeHDX pigment inks which guarantee 60 years of colour permanence (up to 200 years fade-proof for colour prints). This poster is suitable for mounting and framing, as well as direct display on a wall.
This high-resolution, museum-grade fine art print is produced from a unique restored image. Printed on premium archival-quality art paper or canvas, it makes a striking addition to any interior as wall décor or a poster, and a memorable gift for lovers of antique and vintage maps, collectors of historic prints, historians, and explorers. Almost indistinguishable from the original Georgian engraving, it adds character and interest to a study, library, or office wall. It also makes a thoughtful gift for all occasions, including Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, and Father's or Mother's Day.
