Details

Mass D8 Missa Sancti Aloysii (Missa Sancti Gabrielis) appears to have been one of Hofmann’s more popular masses. Like most of Hofmann’s masses, D8 is a compact work that is clearly conceived with liturgical practicality in mind.

This edition is based principally on a copy of the work preserved (unusually in score) in the archive of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Wien with additional material – namely the timpani and ripieno viola, which are printed here in smaller type – taken from the Hofkapelle copy. Both of these copies agree closely with the parts from the St Peter’s archive which were presumably used by Hofmann himself. The non-autograph score is headed: ‘Missa in honore Gabrielis Del Sig. Leop. De Hoffmann M:D: / Ca: S: St: ”. The right hand margin carries an old catalogue number “Nro i6 / Litt P:” The designation of the work as being in honour of St Gabriel is interesting since virtually every other source names St Aloysius.

The layout of the score is idiosyncratic by modern standards with the organo at the top followed by the choir (designated Sopran, Alt, Tenor and Basso), violini, violone and clarini. Beginning on the last page of the score, contemporaneous with it and in the hand of the copyist, is an arrangement of the organ part for flute.

As is common in many scores of the period, the text underlay is entered into the top (soprano) part only. The exceptions to this are the beginnings of the ‘amen’ in the ‘Credo’ (which is in double counterpoint) and the loosely contrapuntal ‘Dona nobis’. The Hofkapelle copy is preserved as a set of performing parts: ‘No.ii / Missa in D / a / 4 Voci in pieno / 2 Violini / Oboe unis / 2 Tromboni / 2 Clarini, e Timpani / 2 Trombe / Viole / Violoncello Violone Fagotto. Organo Concto / M:D:C: / Del Sigl: Leopol: Hoffmann / Maestro di Capella di St. Stefano / Parti 40’.

In the absence of both the autograph score and an authentic set of parts, this edition presents as faithfully as possible the intentions of the composer as transmitted in the two sources. The style and notation of articulation and dynamic markings have been standardised throughout, and, where missing from the respective sources, markings have been reconstructed from parallel passages. These are indicated by the use of dotted slurs or brackets. Like most eighteenth century sources, the present manuscripts are inconsistent at times in its notation of appoggiature; these too have been standardised to minimise confusion.

Obvious wrong notes have been corrected without comment; editorial emendations with no authority from the source are placed within brackets. The text underlay is for the most part unproblematic but in the two sections referred to above the editor has crosschecked the underlay with the Hofkapelle and St Peter’s copies.

Short-lived but much enjoyed as a chew toy
Color: Consuela the Cactus - Large, Size: Large Dog
I bought two of these for my "granddogs" in the size for Large dogs. The German Shepherd-mix stole the one intended for the border collie-mix and had both toys halfway destroyed within a day--I'm pretty sure they didn't survive much longer after that. Much enjoyed! Maybe I should've bought the Extra Large size, because the Large barely fit in her mouth and she wanted to play tug-of-war, so there wasn't much for me to grab onto. Then the border collie wanted in on the action (she's older, so she needed help tugging!) but there wasn't enough material for her to grab onto without accidentally sinking her teeth into me instead.

Love all the Barkbox toys
Color: Christmas Consuela, Size: Large Dog
This is our third "Consuela"! Our dogs LOVE these toys, and they are the most durable we can find for our heavy chewers. They really like the ball inside as well. Highly, highly recommend these toys. I won't be buying other toys anymore, just barkbox.

My dog is a toy destroyer
Color: Consuela the Cactus - Large, Size: Large Dog, Color: Consuela the Cactus - Large, Size: Large Dog
I’ve had a hard time trying to find toys that my dog, Zara loves because she’s actually very picky. Ive gotten plenty of Kong toys that are well known to be indestructible but she wants nothing to do with them. Then I got her ropes and that seemed to be good for a while until she was getting sick in the middle of the night from eating all of the string. Stuffed toys aren’t good because she’ll rip them within seconds and eat all of the stuffing. I felt like I’ll never score the perfect toy for her. I found the three layered cactus toy and decided to give it a go. It’s clearly designed to be ripped and destroyed to get the ball in the middle which is actually really cute and fun to see all of the layers. The cactus arms have stuffing and of course that’s the first thing she went for and ate. I had to watch her and make sure I took the stuffing away before she ate it. And before I knew it, she ate half of the first layer fabric lol once she got through the first layer, all she’s been doing is walking around the house with the toy in her mouth. But now she’s tired and passed out on the couch from all of the fun. This toy won’t last long with a toy destroyer but it sure does give them something to do and it’s a cute toy. I do recommend!!

Last a while. Will be buying more toys soon.
Color: Consuela the Cactus - Large, Size: Large Dog
Best dog toy I have ever bought. I have three dogs, two at the time I bought this toy. It took them over a year to break through the first layer. The flower comes off first so be careful your dog doesn't swallow it. It still has the second layer so it still looks like a cactus. No stuffing to clean up when they tear into it, which makes it far less messy than other toys. One of my dogs is obsessed with fetch so I use it like a ball inside. The oval shape makes it hard to ensure when it bounces that it will bounce straight. It's bounced into walls and other stuff that I wasn't intending it to hit. Not much of a squeak so I can let them play with it for hours and I don't get annoyed with the noise. Great toy that lasts a while.
