De Hibiscus syriacus 'Totus Albus' is een bladverliezende heester die in de zomer bloeit met volledig witte bloemen. Deze tuinhibiscus valt op door het ontbreken van het kenmerkende rode hart dat veel andere variëteiten wel hebben. Daarmee biedt hij een meer neutrale en rustige uitstraling in de tuin. Het is een geschikte plant voor wie op zoek is naar zomerbloei zonder felle kleuren.

Eigenschappen en bloei

De bloei van de Hibiscus 'Totus Albus' begint meestal in juli en duurt tot in september. De bloemen zijn enkelvoudig, wit en ongeveer 8 tot 10 cm groot. Elke bloem blijft maar één dag open, maar doordat de struik gedurende het seizoen veel knoppen vormt, is de bloei verspreid over meerdere weken.

Deze hibiscus groeit rechtop en wordt gemiddeld 1,5 tot 2,5 meter hoog. Het is geen snelle groeier, wat betekent dat hij weinig onderhoud vereist, maar ook dat het enige jaren kan duren voordat de struik volledig ontwikkeld is. In de winter verliest hij zijn blad en loopt in het voorjaar opnieuw uit.

Verzorging en standplaats

Voor een goede bloei heeft de 'Totus Albus' een zonnige standplaats nodig. In halfschaduw is de bloei vaak minder overvloedig. De struik groeit het beste in een goed doorlatende, niet te natte grond, bij voorkeur licht kalkhoudend. Tijdens droge zomers is water geven aan te raden om knopval te voorkomen.

De plant is volledig winterhard, maar jonge exemplaren kunnen in het eerste jaar profiteren van wat winterbescherming. Snoeien is niet noodzakelijk, maar kan in het vroege voorjaar worden gedaan om de vorm te behouden en bloei op nieuwe scheuten te stimuleren.

However there were just one too many convoluted plot points, sentences just did not flow nicely at times, and I was left with a lot of confusion on my end. I like this book. The story is fun, cute, and sexy. There's just a little drama, some excellent, steamy scenes, and a fairly good relationship building storyline.
