Wijngaarden en regio

De druiven komen uit Spanje, Castilla y León, DO Rueda. De stokken op Finca Las Amedias zijn ouder dan 20 jaar en staan op 770 m hoogte op arme, grindrijke bodems met weinig organisch materiaal. Die stenen bodems zorgen voor luchtige structuren en een snelle afvoer van water, waardoor druiven geconcentreerd en gezond rijpen.

Vinificatie en rijping

Na strenge selectie volgt een koude schilmaceratie van 8–10 uur bij 6 °C in een inerte omgeving. De alcoholische gisting vindt plaats bij 16 °C in betonnen tulpenvaten. Daarna rijpt de wijn op vat op de fijne lie met wekelijkse bâtonnage. De totale opvoeding duurt 8 maanden in een mix van Frans en Hongaars eiken.

100% Verdejo uit Rueda, gekozen om zijn frisse citrus, kruidige accenten en natuurlijke spanning.

Proefnotities en serveertips

Licht en helder groengeel. In de neus citrus met balsemachtige tonen als sandelhout en munt, gevolgd door hints van witte chocolade en gebak. De smaak is soepel en precies, met frisse zuren, romige textuur en een kruidige toets van witte peper in de afdronk. Aan tafel sterk bij pasta, risotto en vettere vis.

Eknath Easwaran was a wonderful teacher who taught passage meditation, memorizing and repeating to oneself sacred writings. These writings are drawn from many of the great religious traditions. In the last few years of my aging mother's life, she and I spent many hours reading these passages together, meditating on them, and discussing them. We had our favorites and when one of us was travelling, we would agree to meditate on one or two particular ones at the same time wherever we were. At her death, I recited many of these passages to her to bring her peace. She died more than a decade ago but these passages still evoke that beautiful time in my mind and I am grateful for this beautiful resource of passages. I find that everything in this book is a source of peace when I read and meditation on it.
