Wirkkala werd geïnspireerd door ijs en sneeuw en werkte bijna duizend uur met de glasblazers van de Iittala-glasfabriek samen om een uniek stukje Scandinavische natuur in glas te scheppen. Met zijn afgeronde bodem op ijstoppen die boven het oppervlak lijken te zweven, brengt de baanbrekende Ultima Thule een stukje natuur uit het poolgebied naar elk interieur.

Dit klassieke Finse glaswerk is een dynamische mix van kunst en functionaliteit. De iconische status werd definitief bevestigd toen vliegmaatschappij Finnair het in zijn eersteklas-service van Helsinki naar New York ging gebruiken.
