El Grande transports players to 15th century Spain, at the close of the Reconquista. Competing to become “El Grande,” players strategically deploy their caballeros to control the 9 regions. However, the king’s location dictates the balance of power, and majorities can change in an instant.

Each turn, players select a power card to determine turn order, then choose from one of five action cards. These actions allow them to place caballeros on the map and execute special abilities. Scoring occurs every three rounds based on regional majorities, with bonus points awarded for controlling the current "kingdom" and home regions. After nine rounds, one player will emerge as the new ruler of medieval Spain.
