ABOUT THE ART

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of House Of Balloons, The Weeknd collaborated with internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Daniel Arsham and Arsham Studio to completely reinterpret the visual identity of the landmark mixtape.

Known for his signature “future relic” aesthetic, Arsham’s work blends contemporary art, architecture, sculpture, and design into dreamlike monochromatic worlds that feel both nostalgic and futuristic. His collaborations span music, fashion, and luxury design, with past projects involving artists and brands such as Dior, Porsche, Tiffany & Co., Pokémon, and Adidas.

For this special anniversary release, Arsham transformed the original House Of Balloons imagery into a minimalist silver-toned visual experience featuring floating balloons, crystalline fractures, embossed typography, and translucent clear vinyl. The redesigned packaging reflects the haunting atmosphere and emotional isolation that helped define The Weeknd’s early sound and the rise of alternative R&B in the 2010s.

Originally released in 2011, House Of Balloons became a cultural turning point in modern music, introducing listeners to The Weeknd’s atmospheric production, dark lyricism, and cinematic storytelling. Tracks such as “High For This,” “Wicked Games,” and “The Morning” helped establish the project as one of the most influential debut mixtapes of its era.

This 10th Anniversary Edition stands as both a collectible music release and a crossover contemporary art piece — merging The Weeknd’s groundbreaking debut with Daniel Arsham’s instantly recognizable visual language.

An excellent book...a must read!
Format: Paperback
Ruthie Gilmore's examination of California's prison-industrial complex paints a sobering portrait of the effects of the state's post-industrial decline in the past quarter century. Supplemented by numerous charts, maps, and statistics, Gilmore argues that the massive prison-building project that began in the early 1980s was rooted in earlier developments, namely the failure of the "welfare-warfare state" to absorb the numerous surpluses created by political and economic restructuring. Combining theory and historical-sociological analysis, this highly readable book is at once depressing and optimistic; it lays out the facts and guidelines for pursuing meaningful, antiracist struggles against the systemic dehumanization of immigrants, low-wage workers, and youths of color that continues to characterize U.S. political culture.
