This book displays a vast and beautiful selection of photos of the Matrimandir construction. They were taken from 1972 to 2008 by Photographic reporter Dominique Darr. She was born in Paris in 1932 and from 1970 onwards she regularly visited India, where she witnessed the growth of Auroville and gathered a large collection of pictures dealing mainly with the construction of the Matrimandir.

The photos in this book range from images of the excavation phase and scaffolding to images of the people participating in the construction process. There are also a few rare photos of the amphitheatre and the Peace area.
