The coloring that prevents the small edges from getting dirty is called small edge coating, and each book is hand-finished by a craftsman. While no ruled lines are added, there's an underlay included that supports various formats. The paper is especially designed for fountain pens and pencils, but friendly to all other types of writing instruments.
