“Big-hearted, whimsical, and enchanting.”—Christina Baker Kline, New York Times bestselling author of The Exiles
Ilse Erlund is a translator who lives in a house on stilts along the west coast of Greenland. Isolated and restless in her world by the sea, she convinces her publisher to pay for a trip to the country she has never visited but whose language she speaks fluently: France. Her mission is to translate the verses of Geoffrey “Po” Labaye, a charismatic poet known as “the last living troubadour of Provence.”
Upon arrival in the medieval hilltop village of Belle Rivière, Ilse falls under the spell of the Provençal way of life, captivated by the air, the sun, the vibrant spring colors, and the dulcet sounds of the dialect. Soon enough, Ilse is captivated by the poet, too, and she and Po develop a daily rhythm and warm camaraderie—which is disrupted by the arrival of the poet’s son, Frey. Though he has a fiancée back in Paris, Frey turns his attentions to Ilse, and suddenly she is forced to learn another language, one her translation skills have not prepared her to decode. Where—and with whom—does her future lie?
With an eye and ear attuned to the sensibilities of French life, Elizabeth Birkelund has created a love story about a woman forced to choose between the security of her quiet northern home and the possibility of the life of her dreams.

Initially Scary, Now Beloved Animal Sounds Book
Format: Board book
Got this for my 1.5 y.o. for the holidays. She was initially scared of the sounds (which are pretty loud and not volume adjustable). We read it several times without hitting the buttons. Then I would occasionally push some of the buttons for her. Later she got bolder and started playing with it by herself, pushing them at random and perusing the book. Now she has the positions of every button memorized and loves this book. We call it the Big Book and it was in the daily rotation for weeks. We still pull it out from time to time, and she is able to play with it independently as well as have us read the stories to her. Totally worth the money and shelf space. 10/10 would buy again.

Grandkids love the book and especially the flashlight.
Format: Board book
All of Eric Carle's books are great. My 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter is especially interested in flashlights these days, but household flashlights are too bright for kids who tend to flash them in people's faces. This is a low-beam flashlight that compliments a fun book and she loves them both.

Fun interactive pop-up book
Format: Board book
My 2-year-old loves fireflies, thanks to Grandma teaching him to “catch and release”. She then gave him this book to further encourage his fascination with fireflies. The book is a pop-up book and each pop-up has a round hole to shine the included flashlight through to make the fireflies in the book light up. To add to the fun, there are buttons to push to make sounds to accompany the story. Too much fun! Saw this at the store at a higher price, found it here at a discount. Worth every penny!
