The fruit of the Volkamer lemon is mainly used for juices, peel and in culinary preparations where a milder acidity is desired. It is ideal for sauces, marinades and drinks, bringing a subtle and slightly bitter citrus note. In addition, the peel can be used in desserts or for zest. Also, the essential oils from the peel are used in cosmetic products due to their antioxidant properties.
It is frequently used as a rootstock in the citrus industry, due to its resistance to diseases and adaptability to different types of soil. This robustness allows it to be used in regions where other citrus trees are vulnerable to various environmental conditions.
The cold resistance of the Volkamer lemon is moderate, being able to tolerate temperatures down to 21 degrees. In a covered area, tests have shown that Volkamer can withstand even much colder temperatures! It is more resistant to frost than other lemon varieties.
Remember to fertilize your citrus trees every 60 days through the growing season to push them to their maximum potential! We carry premium citrus fertilizer as well!
