The Kármán line is defined as the limit between earth's atmosphere and outer space. It is a concept that is not usually applied within the world of wine, but here it is based on the endeavour to go beyond traditional confines in exploration of something new.
Kármán Wines is a new side project of Gómez Cruzado based in Haro, Rioja, initially to produce Garnacha wines from the alto Najerilla zone. The fruit, mostly old and head-pruned vines, is purchased from growers in the Cárdenas Valley in the villages of Badarán, Cárdenas, Cordovín and Cañas. A Clarete (rosado) has since been added to the range (garnacha with viura) and a Tempranillo dominant red is coming up soon.
