After purchasing a painting in Australia, Billy found himself haunted by the image of a melancholy man surrounded by birds. Inspired to create his own alternative version of the scene, ‘Fly Away Peter’ depicts a multicoloured figure, dressed in a vibrant yellow and purple outfit, surrounded by humorous, untethered birds. Billy has added his signature linework to the body, face, jacket and even socks of the character, introducing dimension and texture that bring the image to life.

The humorous facial expressions of the birds and their apparent contentment hints at Billy’s unique sense of humour and how it defies words. Embracing the weird and wonderful, ‘Fly Away Peter’ captures the sense of joy and playfulness that has become synonymous with Billy’s art.
