Adam is having a daydream, so in that tale the reader follows his adventure through the Land of Daydreams. Similarly, Evelyn is sleeping at night; the reader follows her on a journey through the Land of Nightdreams.
Both characters encounter four guardians, each of whom help Adam and Evelyn along in their journey so they may reach their dream's end: the Great Dream Tree, where the two dreamers come face to face with each other for the first time.
