The intersection of women's fashion and big business in the US has always been acompelling study across social strata. The ready-to-wear apparel industry thrives on creating a presumably original design that is then interpreted into copies. Called design piracy by some and the knock-off process by most in the industry, copying fashion designs is a firmly embedded business strategy that predates even the advent of women's ready-to-wear in the late nineteenth century. Historically, some industry organizations and individual designers accepted and supported copying as crucial to the transmission of fashion; others strove to prevent the practice, arguing harms ranging from lost profits to the abuse of labor. Threaded through the complicated and fascinating history of US ready-to-wear fashion are more than eighty attempts to legislate for design protection, and countless efforts to stymie piracy through patents, trademarking, or industry self-regulation. The authors analyze legal and apparel industry documents; governmental reports; and their own primary research conducted in museums, archives, and special collections to shed light on arguments both for and against design piracy. A main focus is the Fashion Originators Guild of America (FOGA), one of the most successful industry organizations to attempt design protection. Knock It Off puts into perspective the conflicting interests that have always set fashion design apart from other creative works and continue to make the industry an endlessly perplexing and risky business.Binding Type: Paperback

Love!
I love this product! I'm in my early 50s, and though I take good care of my skin I do have some more-than-fine lines, especially around my eyes (crow's feet). I won't say this primer erases those lines, but it manages to smooth out my skin enough that they look less noticeable (but still noticeable, don't get me wrong... only plastic surgery and Botox will fix that). I often wear this without any other makeup. It has the effect of smoothing and softening the look of your skin and minimizing pores, kind of like using a soft lighting filter and Photoshop photo editing software! It makes my face look softer, if that makes sense. Love it, love how smooth it feels on my skin. Don't love the smell (not that it's overly cloying), but it disappears quickly. One bottle lasts a loooong time, as in months and months, because a little goes a long way.

SLIGHTLY SMOOTHER BUT NOT BRIGHTER SKIN
Used it years ago as "Line Tamer"...same product, more money, but a nice primer for liquid, cream or powder foundations. It doesn't tame the lines much, which is likely why the name was changed...I have pink skin...this really doesn't help with that, but does provide a smooth base on which to begin your makeup application...I like it, even at the relatively expensive price as I use loose powder foundation and like the smooth appearance it lends to my makeup. I see zero "brightening" effect...

Awesome Product
I don't go anywhere without this primer. Sometimes where just the primer. Adds smooth texture and glow to my complexion. Makes putting on foundation a breeze. Feels like silk on the skin.
