Accortec Multirate 10GBASE-LR/-LW and OC-192/STM-64 SR-1 XFP Module for SMF

The Accortec Multirate XFP module is a premier transceiver designed to deliver flexible, high-performance optical connectivity for modern data networks. Built to support both 10 Gigabit Ethernet and OC-192/STM-64 SONET/SDH workloads over single-mode fiber (SMF), this multirate XFP module provides seamless adaptability to evolving network requirements. Engineered for reliability, efficiency, and ease of integration, it enables network operators to consolidate interface options without sacrificing performance or distance capabilities. Whether you’re upgrading a data center spine, extending a service-provider backbone, or future-proofing enterprise campus connectivity, this transceiver helps you achieve lower total cost of ownership through scalable, plug-and-play operation and broad interoperability with a wide range of switches and routers.

  • Multirate versatility for next-generation networks: The Accortec Multirate XFP module is engineered to seamlessly handle multiple data paths, including 10GBASE-LR/LW and OC-192/STM-64 SR-1. This multirate capability makes it ideal for mixed-traffic environments where high-speed Ethernet and legacy SONET/SDH services must coexist on a single fiber plant. By supporting both long-reach Ethernet and high-capacity OC-192/STM-64 channels, this transceiver provides network operators with the flexibility to optimize bandwidth allocation, simplify inventory, and reduce the need for multiple dedicated modules. The result is improved network agility and faster service turn-up, with a single module capable of meeting diverse transport requirements.
  • Optics optimized for SMF with long-reach potential: Designed for single-mode fiber, this XFP transceiver excels in long-distance deployments, enabling reliable signal transmission across metropolitan, regional, and campus backbones. The optical design emphasizes low dispersion and high tolerance to fiber imperfections, helping maintain signal integrity over extended distances. The module’s compatibility with SMF makes it a natural fit for existing fiber infrastructures, enabling operators to maximize the value of their installed fiber plant while preserving bandwidth for future growth.
  • Easy integration with XFP form-factor and hot-swappable deployment: As a standard XFP transceiver, this module can be slotted into compatible network devices with minimal downtime. Its hot-swappable design supports maintenance windows and upgrade cycles without powering down critical equipment, helping network teams avoid service interruptions. The compact XFP footprint is widely supported by many network switches, routers, and optical transport platforms, enabling rapid deployment and straightforward field upgrades as your network evolves.
  • Reliability, efficiency, and broad interoperability: The Accortec Multirate XFP module is engineered for stable operation in diverse data-center and service-provider environments. It emphasizes robust materials, rigorous testing, and adherence to industry standards to maximize link reliability and reduce error rates. With an emphasis on energy-efficient performance, it delivers solid throughput while keeping power consumption in check. Its broad interoperability ensures compatibility across a wide range of equipment from different vendors, helping to simplify procurement and accelerate network modernization projects.
  • Future-proof connectivity with unified communications support: In addition to immediate gains in throughput and reach, this transceiver supports a scalable path for future network services. Its multirate capability aligns with evolving traffic patterns, enabling operators to add or reconfigure services without swapping modules. This means smoother migrations to higher-speed networks or integrated carrier-grade solutions, while preserving existing investments in fiber infrastructure and switching hardware.

How to install Accortec Multirate 10GBASE-LR/-LW and OC-192/STM-64 SR-1 XFP Module for SMF

  • Power down the host device and disconnect it from power to prevent ESD or damage during module replacement.
  • Locate an appropriate XFP slot on the switch, router, or optical transport platform that supports XFP transceivers and SMF connections.
  • Carefully align the module with the slot, ensuring connectors and alignment tabs engage properly. Do not force the module into place; if it does not seat smoothly, retract and reattempt with proper orientation.
  • Gently slide the module into the slot until it is firmly seated and the latch or retention mechanism engages.
  • Connect the single-mode fiber cable to the module’s fiber interface using the appropriate connectors for your device (the exact connector type may vary by vendor and model). Route fibers to prevent bending or strain and avoid sharp curves.
  • Power the device back on and monitor the status indicators. Verify link status, speed negotiation, and error counters. Run basic loopback or throughput tests to confirm proper operation across the storage, server, or network paths that rely on the transceiver.
  • Document the installation details, including port references, rate settings, and any vendor-specific configuration that may be required for optimal performance.

Frequently asked questions

  • What network types does this module support? The Accortec Multirate XFP module is designed to support a combination of 10GBASE-LR/LW Ethernet interfaces and OC-192/STM-64 SR-1 channels over single-mode fiber, enabling flexible deployment across data centers, carrier backbones, and enterprise networks.
  • Is this module backward compatible with older equipment? XFP modules are generally designed to be interoperable with a wide range of devices that support the XFP form factor. Always verify device compatibility with your vendor’s hardware compatibility list (HCL) and firmware requirements before deployment.
  • How do I determine the correct fiber connectors and cabling? The exact fiber connector type depends on your device and fiber infrastructure. Most deployments use standard SMF connectors; consult your equipment documentation or vendor support for the recommended connector and cabling specifications to ensure optimal performance and minimal insertion loss.

Almost the perfect watch
Color: Black/Blue
I have owned three earlier models of these things going back to the days when I actually ran road races. They are brilliant pieces of work. My only complaint of them was that the start/stop/split button(s)--there were two on the older models--were too small. Well, apparently Timex listens and the two small buttons are now combined into one larger one. Probably this was done years ago but I'm only now getting back into road work, so now I get to discover it. The perfect watch? Almost. I especially like this model as my eyes are not what they used to be and the oversized face makes it easier to read. The downside to this is that it also makes the crystal easier to scratch. That's always been an issue, but I can live with it. No, the real problem with this product is, was, and apparently ever shall be, the band. Now, it could be worse, it could be a resin band (like the old ones) that will crack and break within a couple of years, but no, this is a nylon and velcro wrap style which should be just dandy, but for three glitches: 1. it's too short 2. it's too narrow (gee whiz, Timex designers, it's an oversized watch, why not a matching oversized band?) and 3. it's still resin where it attaches to the actual watch. Now, I imagine it's probably less prone to breakage in how it's implemented, but if you should choose to replace it, I can see no obvious way of removing it short of cutting it off. Really? But these are minor complaints. I doubt it would be comfortable on anyone whose wrists are much bigger than my own, but replacement bands are everywhere, and this watch will keep time with style and it's brilliant at splits. Heck, it even functions admirably as a backup for my expensive stopwatches at our regular short track stock car events. For my money (and did I mention the price is wonderful?) the Ironman is still the best at what it does, and for what it can do.
