Installation Guide

  1. Disconnect the battery: Remove the negative terminal first to prevent electrical shock or short circuits.
  2. Locate the existing C.D.I. unit: It is typically mounted on the engine block or inside the cowling near the ignition coil. Refer to your engine's service manual for exact placement.
  3. Disconnect the wiring harness: Carefully unplug all electrical connectors leading to the old C.D.I. unit, noting their positions for reassembly.
  4. Remove mounting fasteners: Unscrew or unbolt the old C.D.I. unit from its bracket or mounting surface.
  5. Compare the old and new units: Verify that connector types, mounting holes, and overall dimensions match before proceeding.
  6. Install the new C.D.I. unit: Secure it to the mounting bracket using the original fasteners, ensuring a snug fit.
  7. Reconnect the wiring harness: Attach each connector to the corresponding terminal on the new unit, ensuring each clicks or locks into place.
  8. Reconnect the battery: Attach the negative terminal and ensure all connections are tight.
  9. Test the ignition system: Turn the key to the start position and confirm the engine cranks and fires normally. Listen for smooth operation without misfires.
  10. Check for error codes: If your engine has a diagnostic system, verify no fault codes are present.
  11. Secure the cowling: Replace the engine cover and ensure all fasteners are tight.
  12. Perform a water test: Run the engine under normal operating conditions to confirm stable ignition and performance.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Q: How do I confirm this C.D.I. unit fits my Yamaha engine?
A: Cross-reference your engine's model and year with the compatibility table above. You can also verify the OEM part number (68T-85540-00) using your engine's parts diagram or service manual.

Q: What are the symptoms of a failing C.D.I. unit?
A: Common signs include difficulty starting, inconsistent spark, engine misfires, rough idling, or complete loss of ignition. If spark plugs and ignition coils are functioning but the engine still won't fire, the C.D.I. unit may be the issue.

Q: How often should I replace the C.D.I. unit?
A: C.D.I. units are not regular maintenance items and typically last many years. Replace only when you experience ignition failure or diagnostic testing confirms the unit is faulty.

Q: Can I install this myself, or do I need a technician?
A: Installation is straightforward for those with basic mechanical and electrical skills. However, if you're unfamiliar with outboard ignition systems, professional installation is recommended to avoid wiring errors.

Q: Will this work on 2-stroke Yamaha engines?
A: No, this C.D.I. unit is designed exclusively for 4-stroke Yamaha outboards in the F6, F8, F9.9, T8, and T9.9 series. Do not use on 2-stroke models.

Q: What's the difference between OEM and aftermarket C.D.I. units?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.

Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.

Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.

THIS WATCH IS NOT WATERPROOF AT 8 FT
Color: Black/Black/ Black Digital
DO NOT BUY TIMEX WATCHES - TIMEX ARE LIARS- I just called Timex and was told "a 30 meter rating is only for washing hands, not for swimming" This is a BIG FAT LIE. If the watch is only for swimming then SAY THAT! I AM VERY DISATISFIED- THIS WATCH LEAKED IN 8 FT OF WATER WHILE SWIMMING IN MY POOL . -ALSO, WATCH FACE IS VERY DARK AND HARD TO READ. Even if it didn't leak I would be very unhappy. I want a refund? This watch is only a week old when it failed. DO NOT BUY TIMEX WATCHES

Great!
Color: Black/Black/ Wjite Digital, Color: Black/Black/ Wjite Digital
Great, Just as I remembered them! The only difference is, a shorter band. I thought I had small wrists for a man, but with this band I have to use the last hole to be comfortable . I may add one more hole to the band!

Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking
Color: Green/Black
I love this watch despite the fact that it is really a toy. I love the look of the watch, I love how lite the weight of the watch is on my wrist, and it really does keep good time if you manage the solar charge properly. Other than looking cool on your wrist, this watch has absolutely no functions other than time keeping. The black plastic bezel is molded into the case and does not turn, so don't plan on using that. The watch has no light, the dial numbers are non-luminous and the hands are very limited in terms of luminosity. No buttons. All you can do is adjust the time and date by pulling out what used to be a winding stem in the good old days. The small tag on the strap with Geographic coordinates shown on it indicate the location of the old Timex manufacturing facility (SW of Waterbury, CT). I have a nice ledge at my bedroom window and it gets good western sun for a good part of the day regardless of the time of year. On this ledge you will find a half dozen solar powered watches (mostly Casio) properly aligned to maximize the charge they may receive each day. Note that the description for this Timex watch specifically states that a lightbulb won't charge this watch. You need direct sunlight for several hours if you want to get more than a 3-week charge into this watch. So, I'll leave you with a couple of tips, my friends; 1.) If you are looking for a first watch to give your outdoorsy oriented Son or Daughter, then give them this one. Why? Because it is cool looking, fairly well built, and it actually works, 2.) After you receive your Timex watch, be sure to keep the display mount it is packaged with. It makes a great fixture to mount your watch on for charging and allows you to maximize the position of the solar cells on the dial so that you can optimize charging time. Have Fun! Jimmy

Excellent value, flawless performance for well over a year and no signs of quitting.
Color: Green/Black
Excellent value, had this for well over a year and it still keeps perfect time, still water resistant. No worries about having to change batteries. Owned a fancy expensive (battery) watch once and the dept. store repair intentionally sabotaged the watch in the hopes I would purchase another from them. Yeah, good luck with that, lost my business forever. This is the 21st century, cell phones are the new time pieces, but solar is totally reliable and Timex makes it happen. Holds a charge for many months, although I prop it in a bright window for a few days every few months or so just to make sure the cells are always fully charged, although it's probably unnecessary, just being over cautious. I haven't actually experienced this watch ever running out of power even after months of use. Damn impressive, as it should be.
