DALI Phantom H-50 In-Wall Speaker at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The Phantom H-50 is the most compact speaker in DALI's Phantom H in-wall series, designed and engineered in Hobro, Denmark and available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Despite its small form factor, the H-50 delivers impressive clarity and a surprising quantity of bass from a 5.25-inch wood fibre woofer driven by a powerful low-loss magnet system, paired with a 28 mm ultra-lightweight soft dome tweeter positioned for optimum driver integration. Its frequency range extends from 52 Hz to 25,000 Hz at 88 dB sensitivity with a 105 dB maximum SPL, making it capable of filling small rooms with full stereo or home cinema sound without requiring a supplemental subwoofer. An audiophile-grade crossover with PPTC thermal protection, a solid MDF front baffle with thickened outer edges, and DALI's wide dispersion design complete the specification. Sold individually, it suits in-wall and in-ceiling installation equally well and is an ideal choice for small room stereo pairs, home cinema surround channels, height speakers, or distributed background music zones.

5.25-inch Wood Fibre Woofer: Compact Driver with Outsized Performance

The Phantom H-50's 5.25-inch woofer uses DALI's signature paper pulp and wood fibre cone, a lightweight material with a deliberately non-uniform fibre structure that reproduces fine musical detail without the coloration of heavier or more rigid cones. A low-loss rubber surround and long-excursion spider allow the cone to travel freely through its full range of movement without mechanical stress, enabling the small woofer to generate bass output from 52 Hz that is disproportionate to its physical size. The powerful low-loss magnet system delivers precise motor control, ensuring the cone starts and stops accurately in response to the audio signal for tight, well-timed bass rather than the soft, poorly defined low-end that can characterise underpowered small-format in-wall speakers. Speaker terminals are located directly on the crossover board for the shortest signal path, with spring-loaded grips ensuring a secure, long-lasting cable connection in the wall environment.

28 mm Soft Dome Tweeter with Close-Coupled Faceplate Design

The H-50's 28 mm soft dome tweeter uses an ultra-lightweight woven fabric diaphragm paired with a ferrite-driven magnet motor that handles power efficiently and disperses voice coil heat rapidly, reducing power compression under sustained high-frequency output at elevated listening levels. The tweeter front plate is shaped and positioned as close as possible to the dome, optimising the dome's operating conditions for an extended frequency response, low coloration, and wide horizontal dispersion. Placing the tweeter physically adjacent to the woofer on the front baffle minimises the acoustic distance between drivers, improving time alignment at the 2,450 Hz crossover point and producing a seamless, coherent acoustic summation between the bass and treble sections. The result is a highly detailed, clear, and natural soundstage that outperforms the physical scale of the speaker.

Solid MDF Front Baffle with PPTC Crossover Protection

The Phantom H-50's front baffle is constructed from solid MDF, providing a rigid, acoustically damped platform for both drivers. Extra thickness is added to the outer edges of the baffle trim, improving the mechanical contact between the speaker and the mounting surface and increasing overall assembly rigidity. This tighter wall interface further reduces transmitted vibration, lowering distortion and maintaining clean acoustic performance in long-term installations. An audiophile-grade crossover with all components individually selected for performance includes a PPTC (Polymeric Positive Temperature Coefficient) resettable fuse. In unsupervised custom installation environments such as background music systems, the PPTC limits current to the drivers if they risk overheating, preventing permanent damage without requiring manual fuse replacement. All internal wiring is routed and secured to prevent rattling.

Square Format for In-Wall and In-Ceiling Flexibility

The Phantom H-50's square 275 mm x 275 mm format with a 239 mm x 239 mm cut-out suits both in-wall and in-ceiling installation, including compatibility with standard ceiling tile grid dimensions. Its recommended rear cavity volume of 5 to 25 litres, with an optimum of 12 litres, is the smallest working volume in the Phantom H series, reflecting the 5.25-inch woofer's more compact acoustic environment needs. This smaller cavity requirement means the H-50 is practical in wall cavities that would be insufficient for the larger H-60 or H-80 models. The dogleg clamp mounting system accepts wall or ceiling thicknesses of 10 to 70 mm for compatibility with a wide range of standard construction types. DALI's wide dispersion design ensures that sound is distributed broadly and consistently off-axis in both in-wall and in-ceiling positions, creating a large and even listening area from any seating position in the room.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the DALI Phantom H-50?

The DALI Phantom H-50 is the most compact speaker in DALI's Phantom H in-wall series, designed and engineered in Hobro, Denmark. It is a two-way open-back in-wall and in-ceiling speaker featuring a 5.25-inch wood fibre cone woofer with a powerful low-loss magnet system and a 28 mm soft dome tweeter, crossing over at 2,450 Hz. Its frequency range extends from 52 Hz to 25,000 Hz at 88 dB sensitivity with a 105 dB maximum SPL. It requires a rear cavity volume of 5 to 25 litres with an optimum of 12 litres, and accommodates wall or ceiling thicknesses of 10 to 70 mm. Sold individually for in-wall or in-ceiling installation, it is designed as a true full-range speaker suited to small rooms without a supplemental subwoofer.

How does the DALI Phantom H-50 compare to the Phantom H-60 and Phantom H-80?

The Phantom H-50 is the smallest and most compact model in the Phantom H series. Compared to the H-60, the H-50 uses a 5.25-inch woofer versus the H-60's 6.5-inch driver, giving the H-60 a slightly lower frequency limit of 51 Hz versus 52 Hz and a higher maximum SPL of 107 dB versus 105 dB. The H-50 also has a smaller optimum rear volume of 12 litres versus 20 litres, making it practical in tighter wall or ceiling cavities where the H-60 cannot be used. The H-80 steps up to an 8-inch woofer with a 46 Hz lower limit and 109 dB maximum SPL, suited to medium and large rooms. The H-50 is the correct choice for small rooms, height speaker positions, distributed background audio, and any application where the H-60 or H-80 cut-out dimensions are too large.

Can the DALI Phantom H-50 be installed in the ceiling as well as the wall?

Yes, the DALI Phantom H-50 is designed for both in-wall and in-ceiling installation. Its compact square 9.41-inch x 9.41-inch cut-out is well suited to ceiling tile grid systems and standard ceiling drywall installations. In ceiling use, the small 5 to 25 litre required rear volume is typically available even in ceiling voids with limited depth, and the wide dispersion design ensures sound is distributed broadly throughout the room from above. DALI lists ceiling, front, centre, and surround as recommended placement positions for the H-50, reflecting its flexibility across different system configurations.

Does the DALI Phantom H-50 require a subwoofer?

The DALI Phantom H-50 is designed as a true full-range in-wall speaker that can operate without a subwoofer in small rooms. Its 5.25-inch woofer and long-excursion design reach down to 52 Hz, covering most musical bass content and home cinema dialogue and general effects in small-room applications. For more demanding home cinema use in larger spaces, or where deep low-frequency impact is a priority, pairing with a DALI subwoofer adds the extension and headroom that the H-50's driver size cannot provide. For background music, distributed audio, stereo listening in small rooms, and height or surround speaker positions in multi-channel systems, the H-50 performs as a standalone full-range speaker.

Where can I buy the DALI Phantom H-50 in Toronto or Canada?

The DALI Phantom H-50 is available at Vinyl Sound, an authorised DALI dealer in Toronto, Canada. Vinyl Sound carries the full DALI Phantom H series and can assist with cavity volume planning, cut-out templates, amplifier matching, and multi-channel or distributed audio system design for custom installation projects. Purchasing from an authorised Canadian dealer ensures full DALI manufacturer warranty coverage and local professional support throughout the installation process.

What amplifier suits the DALI Phantom H-50?

The DALI Phantom H-50 is rated for 30 to 120 watts at a 6-ohm nominal impedance. Its 88 dB sensitivity is modest but adequate for small room installations from a wide range of AV receivers and custom install amplifiers. AV receivers from brands such as Yamaha, Denon, and Marantz with 6-ohm rated outputs in the 50 to 100 watt per channel range work well for home cinema multi-channel use. For distributed background music and multi-room audio systems, amplifiers at the lower end of the power range are sufficient for small room coverage. The PPTC thermal protection in the crossover adds a layer of safety for unsupervised volume levels.

What is the smallest wall or ceiling cavity that works with the DALI Phantom H-50?

The Phantom H-50 requires a minimum rear cavity volume of 5 litres, with an optimum of 12 litres and an upper limit of 25 litres. At 5 litres minimum, this is the most accommodating specification in the DALI Phantom H series, making the H-50 practical in narrow stud bay constructions, shallow ceiling voids, and partition wall installations where the larger models cannot be used. The 92 mm mounting depth and dogleg mounting system accommodating 10 to 70 mm wall or ceiling thickness give it broad compatibility across standard domestic construction types without modification.

Simple, Straightforward and Concise - Ideal for Beginners!
Format: Kindle
Written by Sophie Merle, The Book of Tapping: Emotional Acupressure with EFT is a short, concise and simple but straightforward guide to Tapping. What I liked best about this book is that - it is very easy to understand, making it possible for anyone and everyone to explore EFT. Since this is a very short book, I understand that not much is covered, just the basics predominantly, but if you are looking for an introduction to EFT Tapping and uncomplicated explanations and ideas, this is a book you can check out! **I was offered an eARC by Healing Arts Press through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

An excellent basic text for anyone interested in learning the EFT system.
Format: Paperback
Over the years I have read a several books on the healing art of tapping and I must say this 106 page soft cover volume (The book of Tapping: Emotional acupressure with EFT by Sophie Merle) is one of the best I have read lately. The step-by-step lessons are easy to follow and everything is explained in a clear and concise way. This book is organized into ten sections covering the following material: EFT: an energetic technique for health and material abundance, the EFT protocol, working with EFT, a collection of painful statements, the body’s meridians and their emotional function, the various ways EFT can be applied, EFT and the realization of goals, group sessions, two EFT variations and a conclusion. If you are seeking a good basic introduction to the EFT system you may want to check out this excellent book. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Chair/Seated Tai Chi, Qigong and Yoga stretching for seniors and the physically challenged).

Format: Paperback
The Book of Tapping by Sophie Merle is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in early February. The Book of Tapping discusses the use of EFT on the face, upper torso, and hands to loosen energy blockages along different meridians of the body and to relieve emotional stress in addition to physical ailments. There is mention of case studies, self-assessment techniques, a map of meridians, and glossary of EFT-related institutions and practitioners, but it's loosely held together by little else.
