S2009 9" Fishfinder w/Broadband Sounder™ Module & CHIRP Technology

The Simrad S2009 Fish Finder combines the Broadband Sounder™ module with CHIRP technology, 9" portrait display for maximum vertical detail, and intuitive keypad-driven operation. Robust yet compact with both bracket and flush-mount installation options, the S2009 was designed to meet the need for a dedicated fish finder display aboard coastal and offshore fishing vessels.

Key features:

  • Dedicated fish-finder with integrated Broadband Sounder™ module and CHIRP technology
  • High depth penetration and ping speed
  • Vertical heave compensation
  • 9" 480x800-pixel portrait LCD
  • High-brightness display ideal for outside installation
  • See clearly with White Line, White Marker, and Color Erase features
  • Simple operation with 8 direct-access menu keys
  • Bracket and flush mounting options (bracket included)
  • Full-sized SD card slot for logs and software updates
  • Ethernet, NMEA0183 & NMEA2000 connectivity

Integrated Single-Channel Broadband Sounder™ Module

The S2009 includes a Broadband Sounder™ module with plug-and-play transducer port, compatible with Simrad and Airmar transducers equipped with blue 7-pin connectors. Adapters are available to allow easy and cost-effective retrofit of existing Simrad, Airmar, and other third-party transducers.

CHIRP Technology

The S2009 includes CHIRP technology, which utilizes frequency-swept sonar pulses to deliver higher resolution, improved target separation, and greater image clarity than traditional sonar at all depth ranges. Simrad technology makes CHIRP available not only on special-purpose CHIRP transducers, but also via traditional single-frequency transducers. Vessels with a suitable transducer already installed can add CHIRP technology simply by installing an S2000-series Fish Finder, offering an extremely cost-effective upgrade.

Vertical Heave Compensation

Heave compensation eliminates the vertical effects of wave action from sonar depth measurements, enhancing the accuracy and consistency of bottom tracking in rough conditions. This feature requires a compatible NMEA 2000®-connected satellite compass such as the Simrad HS60 or HS70 to provide real-time heave data.

9" Portrait Display

With a compact 9" LCD in portrait orientation, the S2009 maximises screen size where limited mounting space is available. Its portrait orientation is well suited to fishing applications, displaying the water column with a high level of vertical detail.

White Line, White Marker and Colour Erase

The S2009 Fish Finder offers a range of features to quickly and easily adjust the on-screen image to suit the task at hand.

-White Line clearly separates the water column from the bottom with a high-contrast white line, for enhanced bottom visibility.

-White Marker allows any user-selected colour from the fish finder image to be replaced with high-contrast white, highlighting specific sonar echoes corresponding to fish or other targets of interest.

-Colour Erase allows any selected colour to be blended into the background, eliminating unwanted noise or unimportant features from the display.

Keypad Operation with Direct-Access Menu Keys

The S2009 is operated by an integrated keypad and rotary dial. Direct-access menu keys beside the display provide intuitive control of on-screen menu options, for one-button access to key settings and features. With reliable, long-life operation and clear tactile feedback, the S2009's large buttons are suitable for use in rough seas, while travelling at speed, and with wet or gloved hands.

Rugged Design with Flexible Mounting Options

The S2009 may be flush-mounted, ideal for installation aboard new vessels. Alternatively, the included gimbal bracket is well suited to outside installations or pilothouse refits. With watertight rear connectors, the S2009 is IPX7 water-resistant from all sides, in either flush- or bracket-mount installation.

Networking & Expansion

The S2009 includes Ethernet connectivity to share sonar data with other Simrad systems including NSO evo2 and NSS evo2 multifunction displays. The S2009 may also be used as a dedicated fish finder display for NSS evo2 systems, receiving sonar data from an NSS evo2 display's built-in Broadband Sounder™ module. Other devices may be networked via the S2009's NMEA 2000® and NMEA 0183® ports, enabling additional functionality such as waypoint marking and sharing with compatible devices.

Sonar Log Recording - ciBioBase and Insight Genesis Compatible

The S2009 is capable of recording sonar history to a full-sized SD memory card, which may be easily inserted and removed via a waterproof access hatch on the front panel. Recorded sonar logs may be used with the cloud-based Insight Genesis™ service to create custom fishing charts, or BioBase GIS software to create detailed aquatic bathymetric and vegetation maps for survey and research purposes.

Easy reading, needs an edit pass
Format: Kindle
Bottom Line Up Front: good enough to buy sequels. The premise of the story is set up well, pacing is overall decent (coincidentally, about real-time with the reader). The characters are simple, boiling down to one property for personality, one for motivation, and one for looks. However, they play believably against each other and there's no feeling of railroading (except one place, more on that later). The chapter prefaces offer a nice world building method unconstrained by the first person exclusive story itself. On the other hand... Tell me the book was written during Trump-era mask mandates without saying "The book was written during Trump-era mask mandates". Those references, while amusing now, will be dead in a few years (unlike the reference to SpaceBattles which is eternal). Speaking of: The book could use a professional editor to fix things like "gravity thingamaBALL" being two pages later called a "gravity thingamaGRENADE" and described as a cylinder, easy to tie to. Clearly the author changed the shape for convenience but forgot to change the earlier mention (also, metal cylinders slip out of nooses. If you write an ACME 10-ton weight, shape it like a weight and be done with it ;). There were other similar niggles that I forgot now, and I saw no major plotholes... But remember: SpaceBattles forum feedback does not an editor equal. Overall, nice way to spend sick days with 40 C fever.

Just from the beginning, I'm hyped
Format: Kindle
Just from reading the first few chapters, I'm excited. I hate having to deduct stars for non-story related issues, but this formatting is really hard to read. This is much easier to read on Neovel. I started reading it there after Amazon had recommended this book to me. I had no idea we had a web-novel to (light?-)novel pipeline in English! After the first few chapters, I bought the book here to support the author, but trying to read it is a very poor experience. The spacing and sometimes fonts are wrong and make it really hard to read, which is odd because the formatting is great on Neovel. It's almost like it was copied over into ebook using a poorly written tool that didn't properly convert various tags. The primary issue is a lack of indentation on paragraphs. There's also that the AI speaks in italics, but sometimes the italics are missing. Some edits have been made from the web novel, though they seem mostly spelling fixes. The character's point totals are significantly different in Chapter 26 of the web novel vs this book. I haven't re-read the ebook from the beginning though, so I don't know why there's such a difference. I'm not sure which one is better to read, though for some reason the author never put volumes 2 and 3 on Amazon so you'll need to read them over there anyway. Update: As a huge fan of the series, I raised my star rating even though I still stand by the formatting issues. It's not fair to have that tarnish the content rating though. Also, of course, future volumes have continued to be published since then.

Format: Kindle
It’s got it’s issues but overall it’s fast paced, fun to read and some great lines from a snarky AI with a sense of humor

What a Great Ride
Format: Kindle
This book was a fun ride from start to finish. While not fully LitRPG, but sorta' LitRPG light based on the system that's set up, the world building makes sense and fits the story very well. The real shining star was the character development. I felt like I knew the characters after a few lines and as the story developed, casual comments helped build a deeper web of interrelationships. Also loved the blurbs at the start of the chapters - thought they really added to the world building and backstory in a fun way. Can't wait to read more about Cat!

Wonderful
Format: Kindle
This was everything I was hoping for and more. Great world building, awesome characters and a mythology that just left you wanting more. Little snippets at the start of each chapter that hints at the history of the world at large while also slightly framing the content of that chapter? Spot on. My one issue, and I believe others have pointed it out, is the fact that the text is grey and not white, which can make it harder to read when you’re, say, outside. But that’s a formatting thing and has no bearing on the contents. I’ll be waiting in line to get the sequel as soon as it appears! Oh, since Amazon can be iffy about it, the LGBTQ+ tag is accurate!
