Based off of a fictional naturally mummified ice man, Otzi was preserved with a mushroom in his pocket, and an arrow wound that is thought to be the cause of his death. The mushroom was a polypore fungi called the birch polypore. He was using this mushroom as an insulator for fire embers, essentially like a pocket lighter, as he traveled across a frozen landscape.
