PSB CS1000 6.5" 2-Way Universal Indoor/Outdoor Speaker System at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The CS1000 is a universal indoor/outdoor 2-way speaker system from PSB Speakers (Lenbrook Industries, Ontario, Canada), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Designed by PSB founder and chief acoustic engineer Paul Barton and measured at Canada's National Research Council (NRC) anechoic chamber, the CS1000 brings PSB's audiophile-grade sonic performance to patios, pools, commercial installations, and any environment that demands a weatherproof loudspeaker without compromising sound quality. It features a 6.5" clay/ceramic reinforced polypropylene woofer with rubber surround, a 1" titanium dome ferrofluid-cooled tweeter with neodymium magnet and waveguide, and a verified frequency response of 45Hz to 23,000Hz (±3dB). Sold as a pair in Black or White, the CS1000 is equally at home in residential outdoor living spaces in Toronto, Canada and in commercial environments including retail stores, restaurants, hotels, and fitness centres.

Audiophile Driver Design Built for the Elements

Paul Barton's design brief for the CS1000 was explicit: it had to measure like a true audiophile speaker, with a flat response across the audio band, wide and well-controlled dispersion, and low distortion. The 6.5" (165mm) woofer uses a clay/ceramic reinforced injection-moulded polypropylene cone with a rubber surround, a driver formulation that provides excellent rigidity and damping for accurate bass reproduction down to 45Hz (±3dB), with an LF cutoff of 40Hz at -10dB. The 1" (25mm) titanium dome tweeter is ferrofluid-cooled for thermal stability under extended high-volume outdoor use, fitted with a neodymium magnet for high efficiency, and paired with an acoustical waveguide for even, controlled high-frequency dispersion. A 2200Hz LR4 Linkwitz-Riley fourth-order crossover manages the driver integration with phase-coherent precision. The bass reflex cabinet includes a front-firing port with a supplied rubber port plug: when installed in or near a corner where boundary reinforcement can over-emphasize bass output, the plug can be inserted to tighten the low-frequency response and prevent boominess.

Weatherproof Construction Engineered for Canadian Conditions

As a Canadian company, PSB designed the CS1000 with full knowledge of what extreme weather demands from an outdoor speaker. The cabinet is constructed from thick-walled UV-resistant polypropylene with extensive internal ribbing for added stiffness and vibration control. The removable grille is aluminium, impervious to rust and corrosion. The five-way gold-plated binding posts are rustproof and protected by a fitted rubber cover when not in use. Rubber gaskets and seals throughout the enclosure prevent moisture ingress. The enclosure and grille are both paintable, allowing the CS1000 to be colour-matched to any wall or outdoor structure for a fully integrated installation aesthetic. The dual-axis rotational wall-mount bracket is included in the box and engineered from metal for long-term outdoor durability. An integrated wire management system routes speaker cable neatly behind the bracket for a clean finished installation.

Dual-Axis Mounting Bracket for Maximum Placement Flexibility

The CS1000's included wall-mount bracket is one of its most practical design features. It allows the speaker to be mounted vertically or horizontally on any wall or overhead surface, and then rotated up to 90 degrees on one axis and 170 degrees on the other axis, enabling precise aiming toward the listening area regardless of where the mounting point is located. The cabinet's rear profile is intentionally narrower than the front, making it straightforward to install even in corners or tight spaces. This flexibility makes the CS1000 an ideal solution for challenging commercial installation environments, including covered patios, hotel pool decks, restaurant terraces, retail floors, and gym spaces where speaker placement is constrained by architectural features.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the PSB CS1000?

The PSB CS1000 is a 2-way universal indoor/outdoor speaker system featuring a 6.5" clay/ceramic reinforced polypropylene woofer, a 1" titanium dome ferrofluid-cooled tweeter with waveguide, and a frequency response of 45Hz to 23,000Hz (±3dB). Designed by PSB founder Paul Barton and acoustically validated at Canada's National Research Council anechoic chamber, it is sold as a pair in Black or White and includes a dual-axis rotational wall-mount bracket with each speaker.

How does the PSB CS1000 compare to the Sonos Era 300 Outdoor or Polk Audio Atrium 6?

The PSB CS1000, Polk Audio Atrium 6, and wired outdoor speakers from brands such as Klipsch and Yamaha occupy the same outdoor speaker category, but the CS1000 is distinguished by its NRC-validated acoustic design and audiophile-grade driver specification. The Polk Atrium 6 is a popular weatherproof 6.5" speaker with a simpler crossover and driver construction, suited to casual background audio. The CS1000 uses a clay/ceramic woofer cone, a titanium dome tweeter with waveguide, and a 2200Hz LR4 crossover, and has been independently measured at the NRC and reviewed as performing like a high-quality indoor bookshelf speaker. The Sonos Era 300 Outdoor is a self-powered wireless speaker with Dolby Atmos, appealing for its convenience but fundamentally different in driver quality and acoustic engineering. For Toronto homeowners and commercial operators who want true PSB hi-fi sound outdoors, the CS1000 is the benchmark choice.

Can the PSB CS1000 be used indoors?

Yes, the CS1000 is a universal speaker designed for both indoor and outdoor use. Its weatherproof construction makes it equally suitable for indoor environments where moisture, humidity, or rugged conditions are a factor, such as covered patios, pool houses, gyms, bathrooms, saunas, and commercial spaces. Indoors, its wide dispersion and LR4 crossover produce smooth, even coverage across a room, and its dual-axis bracket provides flexible mounting to any wall or overhead surface.

What does the port plug do on the PSB CS1000?

The CS1000's front-firing bass reflex port is tuned to extend the speaker's low-frequency output down to 40Hz (-10dB). In open-air installations, the port delivers full, extended bass performance. When the speaker is mounted in or near a corner, wall boundaries can reinforce bass output to the point where the low-frequency character becomes heavy or boomy. Inserting the supplied rubber port plug dampens this effect, tightening the bass response and improving overall tonal balance in corner or boundary-adjacent placements.

What amplifier is recommended for the PSB CS1000?

PSB recommends 20 to 150 watts per channel for the CS1000 into its 8-ohm nominal impedance. Its 86dB anechoic sensitivity (88dB in-room) means it requires more power than a typical indoor bookshelf speaker to achieve adequate volume in open outdoor spaces where sound dissipates quickly. For residential patios and decks, a dedicated outdoor zone amplifier or a multi-room streaming amplifier such as the Bluesound PowerNode or NAD Electronics C 316BEE V2 provides a suitable match. For commercial installations, a professional zone amplifier rated at 100W or more per channel will ensure adequate headroom across larger spaces.

Can the PSB CS1000 be used in a commercial installation?

Yes, the CS1000 is specifically designed to excel in commercial environments. Its weatherproof polypropylene enclosure and aluminium grille withstand the rigours of daily commercial use, and its dual-axis rotational bracket enables precise speaker aiming in retail, restaurant, hospitality, and fitness centre installations where mounting points are rarely in an ideal location relative to the listening area. The 8-ohm nominal impedance is compatible with standard commercial zone amplifiers, and the speaker's wide, controlled dispersion suits the large floor areas and ambient noise levels typical of commercial spaces.

Where can I buy the PSB CS1000 in Toronto or Canada?

The PSB CS1000 is available at Vinyl Sound, an authorized PSB dealer in Toronto, Canada. Vinyl Sound carries the full PSB outdoor and architectural speaker lineup and can advise on amplifier selection, multi-zone system design, outdoor speaker placement, and professional installation for residential and commercial projects throughout the Greater Toronto Area and across Canada.

Is the PSB CS1000 sold as a pair or individually?

The CS1000 is sold as a pair (2 speakers). Each speaker in the pair includes its own dual-axis rotational wall-mount bracket, rubber port plug, and mounting hardware. The pair is available in Black or White, with both finishes offering paintable enclosures and aluminium grilles for colour-matching to any installation environment.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Baby bumps and bodyguards
Format: Kindle
Dark, emotional, and unexpectedly tender, Not Ready is an omegaverse romance that delivers found family feels, fierce protectiveness, and a very pregnant heroine who refuses to break. Vale’s on the run from a stalker, but lands in the arms of three private security alphas, cue the swoony tension, fake marriage twist, and slow-burn heat. It’s a little gritty, a little soft, and a whole lot addictive. If you love protective alphas, high stakes, and heroines with quiet strength, this one’s a must-read.
