Fun Fact: Anubias Hastifolia is named for its unique leaf shape — “hastifolia” means “spear-shaped,” referencing its long, pointed leaves. This species can grow quite large, making it one of the more dramatic Anubias varieties used in aquascaping.
Appearance: It features long, slender, spear-shaped leaves that grow upright from a thick rhizome. The leaves are deep green and have a leathery texture, making them resistant to grazing fish and damage.
Habitat: Native to West and Central Africa, where it grows in slow-moving rivers and along moist banks, often partially submerged or emersed.
Aquarium Use: Ideal for background placement in larger aquariums or as a centerpiece in medium-sized tanks. It adds height and vertical structure without requiring special care, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced aquarists.
Care: Very low-maintenance. Anubias Hastifolia does not require high light or CO2 and thrives in a wide range of conditions. It should not be buried in substrate; instead, attach it to wood or rocks using thread, glue, or fishing line.
Propagation: Propagated by dividing the rhizome. Ensure each divided section has several leaves and some roots for healthy regrowth.
Note: Like all Anubias, it grows slowly and is prone to algae buildup if placed under strong lighting without proper balance. Its size and shape make it a bold, natural-looking addition to planted tanks.
