The 2.5 ring eggbutt is a milder version of a 3 ring (pessoa) bit. Leverage can be created with this jaw piece. The lower the reins are placed, the tougher the bit becomes. An ideal bit for horses that are very strong on the course, grasp the bit or walk through the hand. The eggbutt rings cannot move loose and therefore the help of the hand works more directly.

The double-broken bit has two hinge points, is shaped more to the mouth and is a bit looser in the mouth. This bit works on the tongue, the layers and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws, the hinge points can then press on the layers, which can cause wounds. Compared to a single broken bit, this bit has more effect on the tongue. A double-broken mouthpiece is a standard mouthpiece.

Sweet iron will rust when in contact with (air) humidity; the surface rust tastes sweet and naturally stimulates the saliva production. This will cause the horse to salivate more which will encourage the horse to take more contact. The process of rusting (oxidation) changes the blue colour of the TRUST-bit to a brownish-grey. A sweet iron bit will develop an orange-brown rust layer on the mouthpiece if it is temporarily not used. This is easily removed by wiping it off with a damp cloth.
