Cinnarizine Description
Ménière’s disease is a condition affecting the inner ear, caused by a build-up of fluid in the ears.
It may lead to repeated bouts of vertigo, hearing loss, and tinnitus.
Treatments help increase blood flow to your ears and influence your nervous system to ease symptoms.

What is Cinnarizine?

Cinnarizine is an antihistamine used to treat nausea, dizziness, and balance problems related to vestibular issues. The vestibular system is part of the inner ear that helps manage your balance.

This treatment works well for vertigo caused by benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), Ménière’s disease, and conditions like labyrinthitis or vestibular neuritis. Labyrinthitis and vestibular neuritis are linked conditions. They impact different areas of the inner ear but result in similar symptoms.

Cinnarizine is a tablet you take when your symptoms worsen, helping to manage and lessen them. It enables you to continue your daily activities without discomfort or feeling unwell.

How does Cinnarizine work?

Cinnarizine is an antihistamine known as a H1 receptor antagonist. It acts on these histamine receptors by blocking them, which helps to calm your vestibular system. This can ease issues with nausea and balance.

Cinnarizine won't cure the root cause of your condition; it helps manage symptoms during flare-ups. If your condition worsens, it's important to consult your clinician. Additionally, if you have hearing loss due to labyrinthitis, Cinnarizine won't be able to treat that.

What doses of Cinnarizine are there?

Cinnarizine is available in 15mg tablets. If you're using it to treat dizziness and nausea linked to BPPV, Ménière’s disease, labyrinthitis, or vestibular neuritis, the usual dose is two tablets, three times a day. If your symptoms aren't completely managed, the dose can sometimes be increased.

If you discuss your symptoms with us, we can assist you in finding the correct dose for you. When you order Cinnarizine from us, you can log into your account and message our clinicians whenever you need. If you feel your dose needs adjusting, simply let us know.

How long does it take Cinnarizine to work?

Cinnarizine is absorbed into your body swiftly, so it should begin to ease your symptoms shortly. It reaches its highest level in your blood between two and a half to four hours after taking it. Therefore, you should notice some relief from your symptoms fairly quickly.

It accumulates in your body, becoming more effective over time. By consistently taking your prescribed dose at the correct times during attacks, it should improve in managing your symptoms.

What should I do if I make a mistake while taking Cinnarizine?

If you accidentally take too much Cinnarizine, seek medical help straight away. It may cause extreme drowsiness or loss of awareness. Remember to bring the medication packaging with you so they can check what you've taken.

If you forget to take your Cinnarizine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next dose, just skip the one you missed and continue as usual. Don't take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

How is Cinnarizine different from other treatments for vertigo?

When dealing with vertigo and nausea linked to BPPV, Ménière’s disease, labyrinthitis, or vestibular neuritis, there are several treatment options available. Cinnarizine is a type of H1 antihistamine, but the other usual medications function in different ways.

Prochlorperazine helps treat dizziness and nausea linked to these conditions by blocking D2 dopamine receptors. Betahistine is another option for treating vertigo, but it works differently from Cinnarizine. It has a mild effect on H1 receptors, but mainly acts as an H3 receptor agonist.

Each of these three treatments works differently, so one might be more effective than another in relieving your symptoms. Since medications can affect people in various ways, you might also find you simply prefer one over the others.

Is Cinnarizine similar to any other treatments?

There's a brand medication named Stugeron, which contains 15mg of cinnarizine. Since they both have the same active ingredient in the same dosage, Stugeron and Cinnarizine should function in nearly the same way.

Since Stugeron is a branded product, it comes under a different name and tends to be slightly more expensive. Ultimately, the choice is yours. If you discuss your health with us, we can inform you about your options.

How effective is Cinnarizine?

Cinnarizine is effective in treating nausea and dizziness caused by various vestibular system conditions. A study comparing Cinnarizine with Prochlorperazine for labyrinthitis and Ménière’s disease found that Cinnarizine reduced symptoms by 70% to 80%.

For those with Ménière’s disease, Cinnarizine has been found to help prevent vertigo attacks, particularly in individuals who also suffer from migraines.

It not only helps with attacks but also prevents future ones.

If you're dealing with peripheral vertigo, which might be due to conditions like BPPV, Ménière’s disease, labyrinthitis, or vestibular neuritis, Cinnarizine is known to be effective. In a 14-week study, Cinnarizine was shown to decrease moderate vertigo episodes by 65.8% and severe episodes by 89.8%.

Can I drink alcohol with Cinnarizine?

You should steer clear of alcohol when taking Cinnarizine. This is because both alcohol and Cinnarizine can cause drowsiness, affect your balance, or impact your thinking. If you have them together, these effects can become stronger, which could be dangerous.

Alcohol can make dizziness and nausea worse, so it will make your symptoms more severe if you're experiencing a flare-up. It's wise to wait until all the Cinnarizine has cleared from your body and your vertigo symptoms have disappeared before consuming any alcohol.

Do I need a prescription for Cinnarizine?

Not quite. Cinnarizine is available from a pharmacy, so you'll need to obtain it from a registered one. You'll have a conversation with a licensed clinician first to ensure it's suitable for you.

If you let us know about your dizziness and nausea, we can see if Cinnarizine is suitable for you. It's not the best option for everyone, as it depends on any other health conditions you have or medications you're taking. If it turns out to be right for you, we can arrange to send the medication directly to you.

Important Information

Cinnarizine isn't right for everyone, and there are a few things you should know before taking it.

Here's all the official information about it. If anything isn't clear, just let our clinician know, and they can discuss it with you.

It's a sturdy chew toy
Color: Red
Definitely sturdy for a hearty chewer, but my dog wasn't that interested in it. For a treat I spread some peanut butter on it and the design has grooves so she spends some time licking the peanut butter. And it comes with 3 good size chew toys, so cheap enough to try and your dog might love them. Taking out of packing they did have that meat smell as advertised
