If you like the fruity, spicy reds of the Languedoc, the Terres d'Orb delivers in spades. A classic blend of Carignan, Grenache, Merlot and Cab Sav unleash a Bacchanalian orgy of flavour thanks to a fruit forward style of winemaking. This winter ripper is crafted by Alain Rogier, 2015 the IWC Winemaker of the Year, at the Cave de Roquebrun, which ranks among the finest wineries in Southern France.
Winemaker Alain Rogier is responsible for all the winemaking at Cave de Roquebrun and his efforts recognised in 2015 when he was awarded Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge. The co-operative consists of 80 members, collectively caring for about 650 hectares of vines on rugged hills so steep that it's hand picking only territory. What sets Roquebrun apart from other Languedoc producers is Alain Rogier’s use of carbonic maceration, a winemaking technique that is usually associated with Beaujolais and wines made to drink young. But Rogier’s use of the method on grapes not usually subjected to it - carignan, syrah, grenache and mourvedre - has paid off. His wines manage to be soft, fruit-driven and interesting, as well as incredibly ageworthy.
