About the Workshop:

This in-person workshop is taught by CBA instructor María Verónica San Martín.

In this intensive, project-based course taught by CBA instructor María Verónica San Martín and offered as part of the Bookbinding Certificate Program, students will explore the artist book as a creative and expressive medium while developing their own original work over four sessions.
The course begins with an inspiring introduction to the history and possibilities of artist books, featuring a presentation of contemporary examples to spark ideas and conversation, along with a close look at selected artist books from the Center for Book Arts collection, produced using letterpress and printmaking techniques as well as handmade binding structures.
Students will then move into hands-on making, learning the fundamentals of constructing an accordion book with hardcover and embossed design, as well as a three-dimensional flag book, with plenty of room for experimentation and personal expression.
Throughout the course, each student will develop an artist book guided by individual feedback and group discussion, with a focus on concept, narrative, media, and material choices.
The course concludes with a supportive final critique and conversation, offering students the opportunity to share their work, reflect on their process, and learn from one another.
