EPA Annual Report 2021

The EPA, in fulfillment of its statutory mandate to protect and manage the environment of Liberia increased robustly its inspection and monitoring of the environment of Liberia during the year under review as a result of numerous complaints received from the Liberia citizenry, especially in the urban communities ranging from degradation of the wetlands, water pollution, wildlife poaching, illicit artisanal mining, beach sand mining etc. The inspection and monitoring exercise also extended to major industrial activities namely mining, rubber processing plants, steel, cement, breweries, and oil palm plantation. In the effort to buttress environmental monitoring, the EPA has also established a new unit called the Environmental Research Radiation Safety to deal with issues of radiation sources and infrastructures in the country and conducted 10 days’ radiation safety training of technicians of the Agency by extended experts.
